wow, we actually got some snow!

November 30th, 2006

snow i am just amazed that they actually got the weather forecast close to right for once in dallas about snow.

they said it would snow and snow it did. the whole place looks white and will still look that way tomorrow, at least until it all melts away as soon as the sun comes up. we had some fun running around in the snow when it was at the most intense and jon even threw a few snowballs at us.

figuring out how to modify wordPress

November 29th, 2006

i have been fighting to get into wordPress since last week and finally i am in. i am playing around with the templates and trying to modify them with my own images, which i think i have been ok at.

there is a learning curve here and i can tell i will need to do some reading to figure out how the php (of which i know just a smattering of) and the css (know that pretty well) work together with this site.

overall though, i like this interface a whole lot better than blogger, which i thought was pretty limited. (i ported over the old posts from there).

here's to learning...

one silly little word

November 7th, 2006

boy, talk about frustration. i have been working for like 2 weeks on this new layout for one of the web sites at work and finally uploaded it yesterday morning.

chaos soon ensued after i uploaded. the stupid internet explorer kept making my navigation system totally vanish, while it was fine in firefox (my browser of choice now).

after both my co-worker darren and i messed with it for hours, it seemed to get much worse.

it turns out that files were being uploaded from his computer to the wrong folders and we kept having more and more problems.

it all came down to the word "index" which was missing from my css file name (this controls the look of the whole site).

put that in and presto...all is well...except for the headaches both darren and i took home of course.

the shortness of weekends

November 5th, 2006

boy, talk about time flying by.

sometimes it seems you wait all week for the weekend to arrive and then what happens?

the dang thing just seems to zip right by like it was only a day. pity

well, this was one of those weekends.
