just a few words…

May 4th, 2007

well folks, here is an update on both our new house and my injury all wrapped into one entry...

the house is moving along slowly at the present. between using a contractor that sometimes shows up, sometimes is a no-show and really only getting work done on weekends, we are making progress, but slowly.

we have purchased furnishings for the new bathroom like a whirlpool tub, a toilet, fixtures and 2 lavatory cabinets with sinks and fixtures and all these items have been taken to the house.

the floor has been put in the bathroom (ready for the tile which we have not yet picked out) and they are working on the plumbing and the electricity now. some progress on the drywall has also been made.

i have been working out of the office (what will be the office) at the new house when workmen are there. i have a small desk, a fan and cable internet there and i make the best of it. so that means that they really can only work during the week on 3 days because i have to go to arlington to the office 2 days a week.

about the injury...i have had some improvement overall, but i still am experiencing swelling in my hand that is stopping progress in other areas.

i just had to change the location of my physical therapy (due to the therapist i was seeing getting a new job) and the new place seems to be a more professional office and hopefully will have some solutions to the swelling problem.

1 day left of 47 for me and i jump into my 48th year. yippee!

ruthie is great (exhausted most of the time due to work and the new house but cute as ever), jon is fine (although sad about the maverick's loss last night), david is doing fine at a&m and will be back in town soon. yoshi just had his wisdom teeth taken out in israel (said it was sorta painful) but otherwise is fine.

oh yeah, our good friend jaque just moved back from florida and is living with our next door neighbor leora.

short handy update

March 19th, 2007

just a quick update on my shoulder and hand from "the fall".

went to the shoulder doc a few days ago and he said it was healing just fine. am going to physical therapy 2-3 times a week now and am healing. can turn doorknobs and fun things like that now.

actually went into the office for 1 day last week and hope to get there 2 days this week.

here’s the new house

our new home

here's a photo of our new house in richardson, tx.

we closed this past tuesday (3/13/07) and have only put a few things over there yet. we have been concentrating on the fun stuff like getting all the utilities turned on.

i am at the new house right now waiting for the cable guy to come install tv and cable internet. turns out we are in a location that dsl does not service so i hope that cable is fast enough. we ordered the 7mb speed. i was able to get hooked up via dial-up with my at&t account and am using that now to work on web design for work. you never realize how slow dial-up is until you have to sit down and fiddle with it for a while.

i guess it is good to do every once in a while to see how your sites load this way. we get spoiled working with the broadband and faster speeds.

went to the doc for my shoulder yesterday and he said i am healing from the fall and damage to my shoulder just fine. all is as it should be. i have also started physical therapy for my hand.

handy update

March 9th, 2007

well, i have finally gotten the horrible permanent splinty thing off my arm. i went in today for my 1st physical therapy session and they sent me home with exercises and a nifty removable splint that is much, much easier to deal with.

there is still a lot of pain and the hand is very puffed up still, but i am seeing progress towards recovery. they told me it would be about another 4-6 weeks till i am back to normal.

ruthie has been just wonderful and i can't imagine how she keeps up with taking care of me and still doing everything else as well.

in other news...

jon and yoshi just got back from a short florida visit where they went to see their father.

we close on the new house in richardson on the 13th! looking forward to getting in there and figuring out what we need to do to it before we move in.

later

update…still got it

our black lab tasha

well, it has been a long 8 days since i last posted.

i just drew this illustrator image our wonderful black lab mix, tasha. yes, it was all done with the left hand only (i am really getting good at the left-hand mouse) and i think it came out pretty well. she loves to curl up on this big floor pillow in our bedroom and that's what you see her doing here. either her or allie have started to chew up that pillow and it may have to be trashed soon though.

so, just how is my recovery from "the fall" going? well, i have been back in to the hospital for a ct scan and my shoulder doctor has proclaimed that the small bone fracture i have inside the shoulder will not require surgery! a small piece of good news in all of this mess.

there is still considerable pain in the hand. i go back to the hand doctor on the 6th to see how that is going and i am hopeful he will let me take off this horrble mess he has my hand and arm encsased inside.

this past week i did start working again after doing nothing for a solid week after "the fall". i almost put in a 40-hour week here in our home office doing updates to our 4 main web sites. it was very good to start doing web design again and being useful, even if i am slower than usual. i have a big project that i started right before all this, but i can't really start that again just yet.

once again, the family has been great and i thank everyone that has emailed or called to wish me well.

oy, and i also finally shaved...not an easy thing to do with the wrong hand.
